Just after nine o'clock, the front door of the Shanghai Exhibition Center gradually became lively, and a queue began to form in front of the security checkpoint to enter the exhibition center. This is Friday, and the 2016 Shanghai Design Week has just opened here.
I can’t even remember how many “design exhibitions” this year opened in Shanghai. It is foreseeable that during the upcoming weekend, the excitement in front of the Shanghai Exhibition Center will escalate, and this venue will welcome a large wave of "design enthusiasts."

As a design exhibition named after a city, Shanghai Design Week has high hopes for Shanghai, which is striving to build the image of a "design capital". This can be seen from the theme pavilion setting of the exhibition. The entire exhibition can be divided into "design + fashion life", "design + technology application", "design + green ecology" and "design + creative scene" according to the exhibition area. During the exhibition, there are also AR/VR experience areas, design markets and other areas where audiences can directly participate and experience - from the grand to the small, from the avant-garde to the daily life, this exhibition is expected to cover all aspects of "design".
Now, follow us to see what highlights of this design week are worthy of attention.
"Zhu Hui Long Jue" Jackie Chan/Movies/Waste Art Special Exhibition
All exhibits in this exhibition are made with props and office furniture provided by Jackie Chan Creative Center. Viewers can see how tires, searchlights, fans, etc. are given a new life using the language of design and art.

“Family Drama”-B612 Planet Home Exhibition
This is an exhibition that puts household scenes into the fairy tale "The Little Prince" to display furniture. The combination of Nordic minimalist style and modern Chinese-style furniture and home products with the background walls and decorations of "The Little Prince" should give the audience a surprising home design experience.

“Cloudy to Sunny” Dai Paper Cloud House Interactive Installation + Threatened Defense Action
Dai paper with more than 800 years of manufacturing technology is made into the shape of clouds and hung from the cantilever. If you are interested, the audience can pull up the handle on one side and let the clouds rotate. The gaps in the clouds will match the changes in light when they rotate, casting mottled shadows, which is very artistic.

Just opposite the installation, a charity sale booth was set up for the "Operation Rare Defense", a public welfare event for the inheritance of ethnic handicrafts.
3D printing cafe
On the first floor of the atrium of the venue, there is a cafe where everything from food to tableware is 3D printed. There are also many 3D printed decorations and handicrafts in this cafe. It’s fun to take a look while waiting for your coffee and food to be made.

Yang Design Consultant: Design for the City
Bus stops, street signs, trash cans, and street lights are the most common public facilities in cities. This exhibition area of Yang Design Consultants reviews the urban designs they have participated in in the past. Perhaps the urban landscapes you have passed by are among them.

Overall, the entire design week was quite lively, with design brands in fashion, cultural and creative, technology, home, urban, sustainability and other fields gathered together to display. During the event, a number of forums and speeches were held in turn. There are also supporting facilities such as cafes and food stations in the venue to enrich the entire visit experience.
However, behind the excitement, the uneven quality of exhibitors made the theme set by the design week seem somewhat hollow; the "excellent" placement of the design by the sponsors also made the entire event seem a bit different. Obviously, these can no longer satisfy the Chinese audience who have been spoiled by various "design weeks".
