The first giant panda cub born in Belgium officially got its own name on the 15th during the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival - "Tianbao", which means "the treasure given by God".
Qu Xing, Chinese Ambassador to Belgium, attended the naming ceremony held on the 15th. Regina, Director of the Asia-Pacific Department of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, read out the congratulatory letter sent by Queen Mathilde on September 9 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the giant panda. Queen Mathilde praised "the birth of the giant panda baby as a new symbol of the fruitful cooperation between the people of Belgium and China" and "wishes the giant panda baby to grow up healthily and the friendship between the two peoples to last forever."
Regina also said in her speech that the birth of "Tianbao" is the best gift for this year's 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Belgium.
With the birth of "Tianbao" on June 1 this year, Belgium became the third European country to give birth to a giant panda cub in the past 20 years, after Austria and Spain. Currently, the baby giant panda weighs 6 kilograms and is growing well. After Paradise Zoo announced on social media that the giant panda cub would meet the public, tourists from all over the world came in droves, with daily visitor flow reaching 20,000.
